Salmon Chowder
We had some leftover Chinook salmon and a little bit of shrimp fed mackinaw as well. (We always cook a little extra, so we can make the following great recipe with natural gourmet ingredients)
Saute:
3T Butter
3/4 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup celery, diced
1 clove garlic, minced or powder to taste
ADD
2 c. potatoes, diced
2 cans or 4 cups chicken broth
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp dill weed
2 diced carrots
Simmer for 20 minutes.
ADD
1 can creamed corn
13 oz. can of evaporated milk
10 or more ounces of leftover fish or canned salmon
boneless fillets for us
Heat thoroughly….serve with other favorite garnishes of your choosing.

Detergents are soaps made from synthetic materials, and have a long history of being loaded with Phosphates. Phosphates help boost the cleaning efficiency of detergent, but have harmful effects on rivers, lakes, streams, and other fresh waters. Phosphorous is an important plant nutrient, but when so much of it pours into natural bodies of water (ultimately from our dishwashers and washing machines) levels of phosphates in these fresh water bodies can be much higher than usual.
The result? Algae in the water grow faster than they should, turning clear lakes and rivers green and cloudy. This extra algal growth is not only unappealing to look at, but can also make the water smell bad and make it unsuitable for swimming.
In the long run, the excess algal growth can have devastating impacts on the health and age of a fresh water lake or river, causing eutrophication to speed up, where lakes and other water bodies fill in with dead algae and other organic matter and eventually turn into dry land.
Reduce your impact by purchasing only detergents made without phosphates. The Watkins company has been making Phosphate free detergents and soaps for years.
We are told these work great.

Simply Great Taste and Great Value
I know, it’s not “Environmental Cleaning Information”, but it’s sure good! Made this for dinner tonight with fresh green spinach leaves out of our own garden!
- 4 cups of filtered water
- 1 teaspoon of anise seeds
- A few shakes of garlic powder
- A few shakes of onion powder
- A few shakes of Allspice
- A few shakes of chili powder
- 1 and 1/2 packets of the ramen beef flavor
I bring the above to a full boil for a few minutes in order to blend the flavors. I thin slice some sirloin steak we have in the freezer while the water comes to a boil and continues to blend with the spices and herbs. I do just enough of the steak to get a small slice in most every bite and return the rest to the freezer.
I then add the two packages of ramen noodles to the boiling mix of water and all-natural herbs and spices. Let it return to boil for three minutes. During that time, I put two tablespoons of Hoisin Sauce in my big bowl along with the thin sliced beef. Get the basil and fresh spinach ready to go in order to add them to the top. Pour the spiced boiling water into the bowl of meat and sauce. Stir to blend. Now sprinkle the fresh green spinach leaves and basil over the top. You will then have the pretty picture you see above to share with your spouse! Great eats for a low price and most any guy can make it to share with his wife!
